Consent Agenda

Authorize the Administrative Officer to approve filling two budgeted, full-time positions for public health nurses in the maternal child health program (SR 20-028; N. Furness)

Division:
Prevention Services / Nancy Furness, Division Director
Prior Board Review:
Administration Committee, 3/25/20; Executive Committee, 3/26/20

Background

Two public health nurses in the maternal child health program in Prevention Services have resigned from their full-time position. One resignation is effective immediately and the other is effective 6/30/20. These positions perform nursing activities related to parent-child health to address health issues and disparities adversely impacting populations and individuals. Activities include population-based advocacy, assessment, policy development, partnerships, communication, education, and problem-solving.

The positions are budgeted in 2020 for $71,729 and $74,841 (salary and benefits). New public health nurses will not exceed the budgeted costs and will likely be hired at lower steps, with a cost savings in 2020.

Board Authority

Consistent with Resolution 19-20 and the revised Division of Responsibilities (10/8/19), the Board of Health has authority over the Health District budget. In accordance with Resolution 18-27, no hiring of additional employees is allowed without the review and approval of the Executive Committee and the Board of Health.

Recommended Motion

MOVE TO authorize the Administrative Officer to approve filling two full-time, budgeted positions for public health nurses in the maternal-child health program.
