It is an expectation of the District that staff be properly immunized or sign a statement of declination against vaccine preventable diseases that they may be exposed to in the course of their duties or for which they may potentially exposure clients and other staff. This policy establishes requirements and recommendations for vaccinations or proof of immunity for personnel, temporary staff and interns within the District. Vaccines include measles, mumps, rubella, tetanus and diphtheria, pertussis, varicella, annual influenza, and hepatitis B if there is a work-exposure risk.
The policy (Exhibit A) and procedure (Exhibit B) formalize the current Health District policy in place; there are no changes to the current policy. This policy complies with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations and federal and Washington State laws and regulations regarding communicable disease risk and exposure.
New employees are asked to submit written medical verification of vaccinations or proof of immunity status at the time of hire. Employees may sign a declination of immunizations based on medical, religious, or philosophical objects as allowed in Washington State. Employees are ensured that there is no discrimination or discipline for signing a declination. They are also informed that, within the Health Officer’s authority for disease control measures, they may be excluded from regular work duties or from work during a declared outbreak. Possible actions include reassignment, performing duties that do not require direct contact with the public, using accrued leave or taking leave without pay.
