BOARD OF HEALTH STAFF REPORT (SR 20-082)
November 10, 2020
Consent Agenda

Authorize the Administrative Officer to approve filling a vacant, budgeted position for a 0.5 FTE Registered Nurse in the TB Elimination and Refugee Health programs (SR 20-082; K. Curtis)

Division:
Prevention Services / Katie Curtis, Prevention Services Director
Prior Board Review:
Administration Committee, 10/28/20; Executive Committee, 10/29/20

Background

A registered nurse in the Tuberculosis Elimination and Refugee programs has retired, leaving a vacancy in the program. The position was originally budgeted at a 0.9 FTE; however, due to funding cuts at the federal level and reduced number of refugees coming into Snohomish County, we would like to refill the vacant position to 0.5 FTE. Funding cuts at the federal level are mainly due to the cap on the number of refugees currently being allowed into the United States. This cap is set by the U.S. President each year.

The position was budgeted in 2021 for $112,628. A new registered nurse at 0.5 FTE would not exceed the budgeted cost and will result in a budget savings in 2021.

Board Authority

Consistent with Resolution 19-20 and the revised Division of Responsibilities (10/8/19), the Board of Health has authority over the Health District budget.

Recommended Motion

MOVE TO authorize the Administrative Officer to approve filling a vacant, budgeted position for a 0.5 FTE Registered Nurse in the TB Elimination and Refugee Health programs.
