In January 2022, Washington State Department of Health (DOH) announced that they will combine the Youth Cannabis and Commercial Tobacco Prevention Programs. Until then, they were separate programs with Whatcom County being the regional lead for Cannabis Prevention and Snohomish County being the regional lead for Tobacco Prevention. In April 2022, it was announced that Whatcom will be the regional lead for both programs for the next fiscal year.
Due to the reduction of funding, staff would like to apply for this grant to sustain the current 1.0 FTE Healthy Communities specialist that focuses on cannabis and tobacco prevention. This grant would allow us to continue our cannabis and tobacco work in a different capacity by developing and sustaining the “Practice Collaborate”(PC). If awarded this grant, the District would be the lead organization to facilitate regular communication between YCCTPP prevention contractors through multiple channels (e.g., face-to-face meetings, newsletters, conference calls, webinars, password-protected social network platforms) to foster collaboration, create a space of learning, support the integration of commercial tobacco (including vapor products) into the primary functions of the PC, and provide technical assistance to transition the PC to an autonomous, participatory-driven collaborative with logistic support from YCCTPP staff at DOH.
Funding amount available: $125,000 to be awarded to one recipient
Application due date: July 22, 2022, by 5:00 pm
