Authorize the Administrator to approve recruitment of a 1.0 FTE Program Specialist II to fill a budgeted, vacant position (SR 19-062; S. Frederick)

Background

Per Board of Health instruction, any recruitment for vacant staff positions must be approved by the Board during the 2019 budget year. 

 

The customer service program has a Program Specialist II position (Exhibit A) that is currently vacant; the previous employee retired on May 1, 2019.

 

Under the direction of the customer service manager, this position is responsible a variety of highly complex and diverse technical support work for the Administrative Services division. The Program Specialist II assists with building and maintaining customer service initiatives and goals while applying office/operational support skills, and is responsible for team collaboration, organization, prioritization, and coordination of multi-section work assignments, while applying Lean principles.

 

The position is in the 2019 budget and is currently budgeted for $83,051 salary/benefits. It’s anticipated that a new hire will result in an initial annual cost of $68,833- $71,588 based on experience, a reduction of approximately $14,218 - $11,463.  Recruitment will begin upon final Board approval.

 
Board Authority

Consistent with the Division of Responsibilities, the Board of Health has authority over the Health District budget. In accordance with Resolution 18-27, no hiring of additional employees is allowed without the review and approval of the Executive Committee and the Board of Health.

 
Recommended Motion

MOVE TO authorize the Administrator to approve recruitment of a 1.0 FTE Program Specialist II to fill a budgeted, vacant position.
