Background

Per Board of Health instruction, any recruitment for vacant staff positions must be approved by the Board during the 2019 budget year.

The previous Program Assistant 1 in the Customer Service program was promoted to a Program Specialist 2 on July 16, 2019, to fill a vacancy.

This position performs a wide range of clerical support activities in Customer Service for the Environmental Health division and Vital Records areas, including data entry and retrieval, word processing, greeting the public, answering phones, filing, POS transactions, and other duties of similar complexity. Individuals assigned are expected to learn multiple cross-functioning assignments, provide excellent customer service, and communicate program specific information to the public in person and over the phone with discretion and professionalism amid multiple interruptions.

The position is currently budgeted for $58,999 salary/benefits. It is anticipated that a new hire will result in an initial annual cost of $56,191 based upon experience—a reduction of approximately $2,808.  Recruitment will begin upon Board approval.

Board Authority

Consistent with the Division of Responsibilities, the Board of Health has authority over the Health District budget. In accordance with Resolution 18-27, no hiring of additional employees is allowed without the review and approval of the Executive Committee and the Board of Health.
