Consent Agenda

Authorize the Interim Administrator to approve recruitment of a 1.0 FTE Environmental Health Specialist III to fill a budgeted, vacant position (SR 19-083; B. Straughn)

Division:
Environmental Health / Bruce Straughn, Acting Director
Prior Board Review:
Executive Committee, 7/24/19

Background

In accordance with a budget proviso, recruitment for vacant staff positions must be approved by the Board of Health during the 2019 Budget year.

An Environmental Health Specialist III in our Land Use and Safe Environments Program has submitted her resignation notice, with her last day of employment being August 2, 2019.

The EHS III is a lead position, providing technical support and consultation to field staff while also participating in program planning, development of policies, procedures and regulations, and program implementation and evaluation.

The current position is budgeted at $119,412 (salary + benefits). A new hire from within the District would likely result in some budgetary savings; however, it is impossible to predict the actual impact.

Board Authority

Consistent with the Division of Responsibilities, the Board of Health has authority over the Health District budget. In accordance with Resolution 18-27, no hiring of additional employees is allowed without the review and approval of the Executive Committee and the Board of Health.

Recommended Motion

MOVE TO authorize the Interim Administrator to approve recruitment of a 1.0 FTE Environmental Health Specialist III to fill a vacant position.
